A new air filter will improve performance and fuel consumption, especially on an old car like the Pop’s 59 Caddy.
More power is always a good thing. As is better gas mileage!
Everyone should know if you want more horsepower and you don’t have a huge budget one of the easiest things you can do is install a performance air filter. Initially, I wanted the chromed out air cleaner unit and bought one from Original Parts Group. When it arrived in the mail I was super excited I bought a K&N chrome housing air breather. OPG said it would fit a 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville but when I went to install it the unit didn’t fit on my carburetor. I had to return the air cleaner to OPG and had no idea what performance air cleaner would work on a 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville.
My next course of action was to contact K&N directly. On went to their website and put in their search 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, and there were no results. I had the opportunity to work closely with a K&N representative through email, his name was Jeremy. With the help of Jeremy we determined my carburetor flange is 4 7/32 inch which is not a standard size for today so my only option short of replacing my carburetor was to purchase an adapter to fit 5 1/8 inch flange from Mr Gasket part#2082. Using the adapter would than open my possibilities up to all sorts of possibilities.
My only concern at this point was that I didn’t know what the end result would look like. Did my Pop’s old 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville really need a chromed out air cleaner? I didn’t think so. I gave Jeremy the part number on the air filter that was currently in the Caddy which was a WIX 42092. Jeremy was able to cross reference the WIX part number and found K&N did make an air filter K&N E-1910 that would fit my Pop’s Caddy.
K&N is now going to make it so you can search their website for a 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville and part number E-1910 will be the part that will show up that should fit your 1959 Caddy with a 4 7/32″ flange. Now the car breaths better, sounds better and has a little better performance and fuel consumption.
